Now it's a brand new year with brand new classes. All of us are separated.
Till now, I wonder if anyone of you still remembered 210'08, remembered being part of it.
Till now, I wonder if anyone of you still remembered the times we shared together, the happiness we had, the sadness, the anger.
Till now, I wonder if anyone of you still remembered the teachers would taught us with their never ending efforts.

We may now we separated by just a couple of walls, but no matter how far apart we are, we will not lose the bond we made over our first two years in Nan Hua High.

Nevertheless, all the best and good luck for your future.

YEA! I know most of you are looking forward to this (i suppose -.-), thus, I've decided to organize it once more. I know, I suck at this, but no choice, no one sacrifices=no chalet.

ONCE AGAIN, I'm REALLY SUPER SORRY for the choosing of the same chalet, but there is really not choice as Aloha Loyang, a bigger chalet, costs 2X more and is currently FULL till January. Coasta Sands Pasir Ris again. SORRY.

I sincerely wish that ALL OF THE PEOPLE in the class would attend, regardless of whether you are busy that day. AND because of that, it has became a 3D 2N EVENT. Some people may not be able to attend the first day and they can choose to come at the second day and stay overnight till the third day. Also, if you can only come on the first day and stay over till the second day, that's fine with me too. You can also choose to just come and NOT stay overnight. But we REALLY encourage you to stay overnight as it's the last time we are together already.

29th October - 31st October (Thursday - Saturday morning)
Meet at White Sands shopping mall (beside Pasir Ris MRT) at about 1pm.
We WILL take a bus there together while my father go to check in
WE MAY be going to wild wild wet on the second day so please prepare your swimming costume. However, if you dun wan to do there, there are still a lot more other places in downtown you to visit which is DRY.
On the last day, perhaps some people would choose to go escape themed park with me (i know it's darn expensive) but it's HALLOWEEN and they have a special event called the Fortune Telling thingy. Sadly, I have only 1 FREE entry into Escape so perhaps you all have to purchase one.

SO WHO IS GOING WITH ME. LET'S MAKE THE LAST OF 210 A MEMORABLE ONE!

Living organisms and their environment

Physical Environment
-The physical environment depends on the place where an organism lives, that is, its Habitat
-These physical conditions determine the types of organisms that will live there. Soe organisms have special features that help them live in their habitat
-These organisms are adapted to their environment

Factors of Physical Environment
-Light
-Temperature
-Mineral Salts and Salinity

Light
-Green plants need light to make food through photosynthesis
-Light intensify determines the types o plants and thus, the types of animals that are found in a habitat
-Most animals require light to see so that they can move around, find food and avoid danger

Temperature
-Temperature affects the activities of all living organisms
-To survive under more extreme temperatures, certain organisms have special adaptive features of behaviour
-During winter, many birds fly to warmer climates to avoid the cold
For example. The polar bear has a thick coat of fur, which keeps it warm in the polar region

Water
ALL organisms need water to survive
-The amount of water in any place is determined by the amount of rainfall it receives throughout the year
Some organisms are able to survive in conditions where there is a limited supply of water such as the desert
Example 1. The spiny leaves of the cactus reduce the transpiration rates - and thus, water loss. The thick green fleshy stem that helps to store water can also carry out photosynthesis
Example 2. Camels can survive for a week or longer without any water

Air
-Plants need carbon dioxide to perform photosynthesis
-Land organisms take in Oxygen from the air, while more aquatic organisms take in oxygen dissolved in water
-Calcium is needed by plants protein pumps (in cell membrane) to pump in ions during active Transport

Mineral Salts and Salinity
-Mineral Salts are important in the manufacture of many important substances such as proteins, vitamins, and chlorophyll.
-animals obtain mineral salts from the food they eat.
-Plants absorb mineral salts from the soil solution
-Some aquatic organisms are adapted for life in very salty water such as the sea while others are adapted to live in streams and freshwater ponds

pH (Acidity/Alkalinity)
-The pH value of soil solution or water in freshwater ponds and sea water determines the type of organisms that can live in such environments
-Fresh water organisms live in fresh water (neutral pH of about 7)
-Marine organisms live in the sea (slightly alkaline with a pH of about 8)
-The pH value of water also changes during different times of the day. In strong sunlight, aquatic plants use Carbon Dioxide to perform photosynthesis. This makes the water more alkaline. Generally, most plants grow well in neutral or slightly alkaline soils.
-However, some plants grow better in acidic soils

Biotic Environment
-The biotic environment refers to all the living organisms in a habitat
-Organisms interact with each other in different ways:
>Predater-prey relationship
>Parasitism
>Mutualism

Predator-prey relationship
-The predator is an animal that lives by killing and eating other animals. The prey is the animal that is killed and eaten by the predator

Parasitism
-This is a relationship between 2 organisms in which the parasite benefits at the expense of the host - doing some harm to it's host

Mutualism
-This is a relationship between 2 organisms by which both benefit from.
E.g. Ants protect aphids from their predators in return for the honeydew secreted by the aphids. Honeydew is a source of food for the ants.

Ecosystems
-A group of organisms of the same kind is called population
E.g: mudskippers, squirrels, humans
-Different populations or organisms living together in the same habitat make up a community
Community = Populations + Habitat
-An ecosystem consists of communities of living organisms interacting with one another and with their physical environment
-In a mangrove ecosystem, you may find a community - made up of:
> a population of monitor lizards,
> a population of mangrove plants,
> and a population of mudskippers
-The Earth can be regarded as one big ecosystem called the Biosphere
-There are many ecosystems in the world:
>Tropical Rainforests
>Grasslands
>Tundra
>Mountains

Ecosystem - Producers, Consumers, Decomposers

Producers are green plants that manufacture food substances from simple nutrients like carbon dioxide and water. Green plants convert energy from sunlight into chemical energy and store it as complex nutrients like carbohydrates.

Consumers are animals that obtain energy and nutrients from the other organisms they feed on.
-Animals feeding directly on plants are primary consumers
-Animals feeding on primary consumers are secondary consumers
-Animals feeding on secondary consumer are tertiary consumers

Decomposers such as Fungi and Bacteria break down the complex nutrients in excreta and dead bodies of organisms to set free:
-Carbon dioxide which escapes into the atmosphere
-Soluble mineral salts which dissolve in the soil water

What is a food chain?
-It is a series of organisms through which energy and food are transferred from one organism to another.

What is a food web?
-In a community, food chains are inter-linked to form a food web.
-There are complex food relationships that occur in natural ecosystems

Pyramid of Energy
-The pyramid of energy is used in expressing the energy present in each level of the food chain
-The total energy level decreases progressively along the food chain. This is because a lot of energy is lost to the environment as food is transferred from one trophic level to the next.
Energy is lost as
- heat during respiration
-excretory matter and undigested food from consumers
>the total energy decreases progressively along a food chain
>90% of energy is lost as food is transferred along a food chain
(P.S. I can't draw out a pyramid of energy, go check the net)

Nutrient Cycles
-Nutrients and energy are continuously used and transferred in an ecosystem. In a stable and balanced ecosystem, no nutrients are lost.
-This is due to nutrients being continually taken up from the physical environment and being used by living organisms. After which, they are then released into the physical environment to be reused by other living organisms.

NOTE: While nutrients can be continually recycled through the ecosystem, the energy that flows through cannot be recycled.

The carbon Cycle
-Carbon is an important element in living things. It is part of the proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the tissues of living things.
-The processes by which carbon dioxide is removed and returned to the atmosphere make up the Carbon Cycle.
-The carbon cycle helps to keep the concentration of carbon dioxide in the air relatively constant (at about 0.03%)

Removal of CO2 from the atmosphere
-during photosynthesis, green plants take in CO2 to make glucose.
-Preserved in fossil fuel E.g coal, oil

Inclusion of CO2 into the atmosphere
-During respiration, food like glucose is broken down and CO2 released
-When decomposers break down dead organisms, CO2 is released
-The burning of fossil fuel releases CO2

Carbon Cycle ensures that:
-A constant supply of carbon dioxide for photosynthesis
-Carbon Dioxide is recycled in the ecosystem and is not lost
-Carbon compounds rich in energy can be supplied to other organisms

The NITROGEN cycle
-Nitrogen is also an essential element in living things. It is needed to make proteins that are used for the growth of tissue.
-The processes by which Nitrogen is removed from the soil and returned to it in the form of nitrates make up the Nitrogen Cycle

Removal of Nitrogen from Soil
-Plants absorb Nitrogen compounds through their roots and use them to make proteins; animals get proteins by feeding on plants and other animals
-Denitrifying bacteria in the soil change nitrates into nitrogen gas
-Lost by leaching -nitrates that are dissolved in the rain water and are washed away

Inclusion of Nitrogen into Soil
-Proteins in dead organisms are broken down into ammonium compounds by decomposition, and released to the soil
-Ammonium compounds are converted to nitrates by nitrifying bacteria
-In nitrogen fixation, atmospheric Nitrogen is converted to nitrates by bacteria in root nodules and by lightning.
-Lightning causes nitrogen and oxygen to react to form nitrogen oxides, which then dissolve in rain water and are changed to nitrates in the soil

Nitrogen Cycle ensures that:
-Nitrogen is recycled in the ecosystem and is not lost
-A continuous supply of nitrates for green plants to convert to protein. From green plants, proteins are passed down in the food chain
-The nitrogen level in the atmosphere is kept constant

I believe most of you are a stranger to this term - Google Lively.
I'll just brief you all on it. It is something like The Sims. You can buy chairs and furnitures all that to decorate the room. And YES. It's free to sign up, all you need is a google ID. (Blogger ID)
The only thing different in this software than The Sims is that people may enter your room and chat with you. (Something like habbo. More to the habbo side except that its a chat ROOM) It's still in it's beta stage and it will be laggy. But trust me, you will love it. I've already made a 210 room. Wish you all would go there and join and chat. Its a 3D interactive medium.

210, I am here to post about some details on the class outing.
I know that there maybe some of you who can't make it for the class outing if we organize it on 6 June and so Jian Sheng change the date to 13 June. However, we faced the same problem and again there are some people who comment to us on requesting a change of date as they are unable to make it on that day too. Thus, to prevent such problems from happening and as a result delaying the progress of the class outing, we had came up with a solution. We will provide you guys with a few days in which when the class outing will be organized and then we will have a voting session whereby all of you can vote on the date which u want the class outing to be organize on. The date with the highest voting will be the day when the class outing will be organized. Therefore, after the conclusion of the date, for those people who can't make it on that day for the class outing, we deeply apologize, but that will be the final date and we would not make any further changes to it. Thus, we would deeply appreciate if you guys can give us your vote as soon as possible so the organization of the class outing will be a successful one. You can either give your vote by leaving a tag on the tagboard or tell me your vote through msn, sms or a call. Thanks (:

Forget about all the crap talking and I'm talking about serious work now.
If you had noticed, there had been tons and tons of conflicts happening in our class. What's happening you may ask. Well, its my fault I agree. I didn't lead the class well and set myself as a good example. I've tried to help sometimes but were not appreciated and eventually got told off.

Why are we always fighting and quarreling? Is there something we can do about it? I understand, not everyone will like the class T-shirt design. Since some of you want your own name and some of you want the whole class' name, why not let's put up a poll? Come on... It's only a trivial matter, isn't it? Why are quarreling? To the Class-T committee. Thank you for all you efforts. To the rest, they are spending extra time of their lives to design a T-Shirt for you guys. as u guys know, our cleaniless grades are dropping drastically.
from last year's A* to today's C.
so i would like to seek everyone's cooperation.
i have said this over n over again.
but no one seems to get it into their heads.
so i shall refresh ur memories.

THINGS U MUST DO:

Thursday (Routine Check)
1) before going for recess, pack ur things and arrange them nicely
2)tuck in ur chairs
3) dun leave anyting lying on the floor
4)align ur table with those in front

THESE are what u can help out with. its the minimum u can do.
# for those doing duties on thursday, by hook or by crook, must do during recess. no need to do after school.

Normal Days AfterSchool( Random Check )
1) Put ur chairs on the tables
2) Do not leave anything under ur desk
3)Pick up litter around ur area
4) align ur tables with those in front of you

THESE MUST BE DONE.
# Do duty only after schools, except for those doing on thursdays.

By doing all these tasks, you can lessen the burdens of those on duty. So try to help yourself by helping others.

NEXT:

Mr Tan Hy has given me the permission to clear anything left under the desk after school.
So please dun leave anything under ur desk, put them into ur lockers. First time offenders let off with warning, second time offender no chance given.

This is the proposal of what we gonna do for the 1hour open space during Chinese New Year eve '08 Wednesday.

Class Party

Intended to be held on 6th Feb '08 from 7.55am to 8.50/8.55am.

Place : Canteen / Classroom / Sky Garden

Also, at around 8.40, we will sing a birthday song for all the January / February Birthday Babies. Most probably there will be a cake (or else how we sing =.=)

The Food we gonna bring : Chips, Bee hoon (maybe), fried chicken popcorns, fried chicken wings, satay, ota, pizza ( maybe depends on pizza hut), and many more!!!

"u will nv noe how much u can get when u dont try". the decorations, its a success,ok...maybe we cant get first in the end. but to me,its the best. ppl should really look deeper into the joy of contributing.maybe some of u think that we can gain back nth,or nobody appreciate. true enough to say that,but what we are looking for is not appreciation from others,its a inner-peace from ourselve.when we contributed,we will be happy from inside.nobody appreciate,no problem,we ourselve appreciate.most important,we did our part.

As many of you might have known or noticed, the CNY decor' contest '08 has finally come to a close. To some, it may be dismay, for others, they might be eccentrically euphoric, yelling their guts out as if hell had just broken loose.

Today was a gratifying and rewarding day for each and everyone who took time off to stay back for last-minute preparations for the judgement day.

An eye-opener for us today, we were rather astonished by the attitudes shown by each and everyone of you guys today.

A bolt from the blue, your fervent passion and zeal caught me off guard today. You were no longer the apathetic and indifferent bunch of people who never bothered to concern or give a hoot about this contest.

Burying all hatchets to exploit and make the best out of the time, we were rather competent in handling tasks to give the class a brand new look.

Taking the chance, I'd like to redress some issues.

Distribution of Workload (Unfair / Too much or little )

For instance, let's take the sharing of workload akin to cutting a slice of pizza to be shared with your friends. Whilst cutting the pizza into equal pieces or shares, there's bound to be some slices with more toppings than the others. It goes the same as workload. Some may receive more, some may receive lesser.

On the contrary, everyone would get a slice with substantial toppings, and rarely, there'd be a slice without any toppings at all. Hence, there shouldn't be any freeloaders hitching free rides and having a fair share of the cake. Don't you think so?

Disputes

I believe, conflicts are inevitable when it comes to decision making. Different people have different likes and perspectives when they look at things. We should just take a step back, or seek opinion from a third party. Well, that's my two cents worth of opinions.

The darkest periods are over.

Let's work together, again, as a class, under the reign of leadership of our chairman, to regain the trust in our teachers, that we can work together harmoniously as a class, with minimal or no hitches.

hello! rachel here! waha my first time blogging in this blog. xP

okay anyway, this post is about the class tee. ahha. since there isn't much time to ask during lessons, and everybody cant decide on the colour.

charmain belle and me went to the t-shirt shop in jec. and actually the jersey only costs about $10+. at most 20bucks, depending on our design. but i doubt it'll be that ex. HAHA.

anyway, here's 2 of the designs that we have come up with. if you have any other design, please tell us! xD

yupps. for the first design, if we're making a jersey, the pole at the bottom won't be there. ahha.

firstly, if cai yi fei were to be dismissed or sacked, he should reflect on himself, why he deserved to be sacked.
& i'm not asking for him to be sacked, i'm just asking for ihm to make a chnage in his attitude so that at least we won't fail chinese.

Sylvia, if I had recalled, we had flunk last year's new year decor' contest as we were in the least prepared and we hardly knew each other. As you might know, 110'07 has achieved quite a lot of fame when we had successfully won loads of "A*" for our routine and random cleanliness check.

Also, we had proven our worth when we had won contests such as being recognized as one of the best-selling stall for the Mid-Autumn festival the previous year and if you could remember, Sing to the Dawn Part 2.

Naturally, humans are not born to be winners. But, the situation and how the general public looks at us changes when we have won major contests. We would not want to disappoint Mr Tan HY and the others' who had pinned all their hopes on 210 right?

CNY Decor' Class Contest '08

As you all might have known, CNY is around the corner and NH has organised some class decoration contest amongst classes of the sec2 levels.

The information of the contest was told on Thursday this week.

I reckon some would have minor conflicts with the class committee, but I urge you all to bury the hatchet and work as a class.

Today, JianSheng & Bryan had spoken and briefed to you all about the proposal on the contest.

Many seemed to pretend to fall on deaf ears, or were simply not listening and even feigned ignorance. However, some really paid their fullest attention to the two of them.

Now, the gist.

The CNY decor' committee was hoping that 210 could work as a class and get this project done once and for all. We would have tried to do it ourselves but the deadline's just too tight.

With only 6 members in the committee, how could they finish re-packaging the class for a brand new look in a mere 14 days from now?

On Thursday, if I'm not mistaken, there's a lot of misunderstandings over this project. Many raised strong and violent objections over the fact that the other 34 members of the 210 family were treated indifferently over the other 6.

We'd like to first apologize on behalf of the 6 members of the CNY decor' team for the fact that we did not divulge any information or discussion on the project, as Mr Tan wants the proposal to be in by Friday.

By now, half of the people looking at this post would have pressed alt + f4 or go around playing with the chatbox when they see the word "HELP".

Like I said, the 6 of us, are all normal human beings too. We do the same workload as you all, we study the same things as you all, and we still need to eat and sleep, unlike robots.

Today, when we asked for helpers at dismissal today, nobody, i repeat, nobody even bothered to stand up and offer a helping hand. True, you have your choice of not helping, it's your life. But not even one in the other thirty four not helping? Coincidentally everyone has something on?

Our class, like what our Chairman said, we lack the team spirit and class bonding. I wouldn't want to see a man-eating-man situation within a bunch of teenage students, going around backstabbing each and every single one of us.

Therefore, take this as a plea from the six of us.

We're not robots or super-humans who do not need sleep.
We do not have any special abilities to do things at super speed.
We still need to finish our homework and attend our weekly CCA's

What we need, is just the help of just a few of you. A mere few, would be sufficient to make a significant difference and speed up the process of the decoration.

I would like to make use of this chance, this contest, to prove to the other classes that 210 CAN work together, as one, like never before.

What I yearn for at class, is merely a class which is intangible bonds, which would never break away, no matter what daunts us.
